HAZ MAT Awareness/Refresher and Incident Command Awareness Training from Michigan State University
Michigan State University, in conjunction with Industrial Safety Consultants, Inc., has developed two on-line Awareness Level training
programs. The first covers Hazardous Materials Response and the second is a program on the Incident Command System. These training
programs, located at www.saferesponse.com are designed for personnel working for federal, state, and local government agencies,
including law enforcement personnel, fire and EMS personnel, Road Commission employees, Health Department personnel and other
public sector personnel who may be first on the scene of a hazardous materials emergency.
First responders at the Awareness Level are individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release. They are
trained to begin the emergency response by notifying the proper authorities. They are also trained to define a hazardous material and
the risks it may pose; to recognize a release; to identify the material, if possible; and to identify the need for additional resources, such
as the area Haz mat Team. Additional training is required if the individual will be responding to the hazardous material emergency.
Incident Command Awareness Training is a program designed for law enforcement, firefighters, emergency managers, emergency
medical personnel, government agencies, the military, security, and facility management personnel who may respond to incidents or be
involved in joint response operations. This program may be utilized as an Awareness Program or as a Refresher Program to the initial
incident command training.
Michigan State University is offering these training programs for a limited time at no cost. If you have questions as to whether your
organization qualifies for this free training, contact ISCI by email at - info@isciweb.com.
A certificate of completion will be sent electronically to the participant. A representative from the employer will need to certify/sign each
certificate. In order to be certified, each participant must complete the required information within the registration process. In addition,
each participant must complete the training on an individual basis.
